The doughnut burlesque 2010-07-16 14:01:28
I'm eating a crunchy doughnut. Not stale or anything, just over cooked. To be honest, it's just about the worst thing that's happened to me in the last week. This got me thinking; how often can one claim that the single worst thing to befall them in recent memory is a baked good not meeting expectations? (And yes, I realize that doughnuts are deep fried, but I'm still going to use the phrase "Baked good" to describe them). Needless to say, I'm in a good mood!
Quick warning- that probably means I'm going to type out a lot more then I normally would.
I'm going to the city tonight to see the Hubba Hubba Revue... it's a little hard to describe. Kinda a Goth burlesque show?
I worked in the city for about 3.5 years, and I loved it there. I try and go as often as I can. For me (after commuting all that time) it doesn't really seem like it's particularly far away, but for some reason, all my friends are always very reluctant to make the drive. I'll be down there a lot this week though. After this show, I have a Keane concert on Tuesday (although, technically, that’s in Oakland, not SF) and a Barenaked Ladies concert on Wednesday. I'm sure I'll be dead at work the days following, but I think it will be worth it!
I just got approval for my trip to Cameroon this morning. It's a little strange how it all works; I have to get the Peace Corps to approve my visit, then they have to draft a letter on my behalf. I have to have that letter in hand when I apply for a visa, which has to be done no more then a month before I depart, although I have to have already bought the tickets because the Visa requires specific dates. Not to mention I need to get various shots and have malaria medicine on me, along with a certificate of vaccination. This is my first trip to a 3rd world country (or an LDC if you want to be politically correct- I don't) a lot of this will be things that I am going to have to figure out as I go. Should be an adventure though!
In general, this week is going to be pretty busy. On top of concerts and burlesque shows, I have a drag race on Sunday, a party on Saturday (possibly a date too?), Piano lesson on Monday, Sushi date with an old friend on Thursday... Rarely is my life this busy in such a good way.
I need to go in and update my calendar so I don't miss things, but first I'm going to throw away the other half of this doughnut.

1) I'm generally jealous of your 'busy in a good way' life. My life is busy, but in a generally crap way.
2) You're going to Cameroon?

Since I don't know what an LDC is, I would go with third world country. I'm looking forward to hearing about your travels to Cameroon!
I don't really mind the commute to the city, I just don't like the traffic in the city. I don't like the parking. And honestly, I realized when I had friends visiting a few weeks ago, that until they came out, I hadn't really been to the city since I moved back to Sonoma County in 2008, except for Bay to Breakers. Kind of sad, because SF has a lot to offer.

LDC = Less Developed Country. It's the PC term for "shit hole"
Also, since the end of the cold war, there really isn't such a thing as a 3rd world country.
